About

Dolley Madison Dinners

Dolley Madison Dinners seeks to reclaim the social sphere as a place where individuals with diverse political and cultural perspectives can collectively and civilly discuss the important issues of the day, finding common ground and understanding, working to strengthen the democratic values that founded our nation.

Most Dolley Madison Dinners take place in a home, with 6 – 12 people in attendance. Some hosts like to keep with Dolley’s White House dining style and make the evening formal, while others prefer a less formal dining atmosphere like a BBQ or potluck.  It doesn’t matter — as long as everyone agrees to have a civil conversation about the selected topic for the evening.  Hosts will receive a password to their selected dinner topic where they will find the links to resources for their guests, a discussion brief, and the DMD Rules of Engagement.  Discussions should not exceed 60 minutes and should always end with the question, “What can we all agree on” — and a dollop of ice cream — Dolley’s favorite dessert!
